Joss Stone Feels Sorry for Men Who Tried to Kill Her
British soul singer Joss Stone sympathizes with the men who plotted to brutally murder her. Currently incarcerated, Junior Bradshaw and Kevin Liverpool hatched a plan to rob and kill Stone by beheading her with a samurai sword in 2011.
"There was a big part of me that felt sorry for them, sorry for their moms," the "Super Duper Love" singer told the Daily Mail. "I kept thinking, 'What drives people to do something so awful as this?'"
Police found Bradshaw and Liverpool in the singer’s neighborhood with a vehicle filled with weapons including knives, hammers and a sword. Proving that Stone, 26, was indeed their target, the men went around to residents showing them her photo and asking for her address.
"They turned up and told me it wasn’t a kidnap plot — they were trying to kill me," Stone said. "That did feel totally strange."
After the suspects were convicted, it was suspected that the singer was probably targeted because of her friendship and association with the royal family, specifically Prince William.
In retrospect, Stone chooses to remain optimistic about the incident, focusing on the fact that her killers were not successful in their attempt.
"I could be devastated, scared, crying, afraid to be left on my own," she said. "I could go for a sympathy vote, or I could say … just get up, carry on. It didn’t happen. Don’t give any more power and just get on with life."
Bradshaw, 32, received 18 years in prison while Liverpool, 35, received a life sentence.
