Rohan Marley: Wyclef Knew the Baby Was Mine

Lauryn Hill’s baby father rebuts ‘Clef, says child’s paternity was never in question.

Wyclef made headlines last week for alleging in his new memoir that Lauryn Hill led him to believe her first child was his during the pregnancy. But according to Rohan Marley, the baby's actual father, that's exactly what 'Clef is after — headlines. Marley, the son of reggae icon Bob Marley, is accusing the former Fugees rapper/producer of pedaling a sensational story that he knows is false.
"[Wyclef] knew from jump that was my son from the day [Lauryn] was pregnant," Marley tells TMZ. "[He's] just saying false things to get book headlines."
In his book, Purpose, Wyclef says he and Lauryn were having an affair in the period before her pregnancy, despite the fact that she had been seeing Marley and he himself was married. He claims he stayed with Hill at the hospital when she gave birth and didn't know that the baby wasn't his until after it had been born.
Marley denies that Lauryn ever cheated on him with 'Clef, insisting that the two artists' extra-musical relationship ended when he came on the scene.
Responding to Marley's charges, Wyclef stands by his version of events.
"There is no way that I would have shown up in the hospital in that circumstance to wait for a baby to be born if it was not mine," he says. "The idea of a memoir is to tell the truth. I know that often the truth hurts, but a lie hurts even more."
