Eve: "I Try to Stay Away From Trends"

The Philly femcee dishes on Stevie J and her future in fashion.

Eve has put her stamp on just about everything from the world of music and movies to television and most certainly fashion. She was first unleashed as the Ruff Ryders’ “pitbull in skirt” with her signature platinum-blonde ceasar in 1998. After dominating hip hop with her lyrical prowess and fierce sense of style, it was only fitting for her to break out into fashion, designing her own line, Fetish by Eve. Fetish took off quickly but shut its doors for good in 2009.

Several looks and hairstyles later, the "Let Me Blow Ya Mind" MC is back on the scene with her new EP, Lip Lock, after an 11-year hiatus. BET.com caught up with the fashionista to find out more about what keeps her en vogue.

What ever happened with your clothing line, Fetish by Eve? Do you have plans to bring it back?

I let Fetish go a while ago. Years ago actually, so I definitely don’t have it anymore but I definitely want to do another clothing line at some point. I’m not sure when but I definitely want to. I love fashion so I’m sure something will come up soon.

If you were to start another line, would it be similar to Fetish?

No, definitely not. I think even then as much as I liked Fetish, it really didn’t represent me and my style since I had so many partners. I think the line that I’d do now would definitely be more my style. You’d definitely be able to see that it’s all coming from me.

How has your fashion evolved over the past decade?

It’s definitely changed a lot. I’m a less-is-more person. Like, I like to look fly, sexy and whatever but I don’t like it to look like I’m doing too much. So it’s kind of effortless chic that’s what I like to call it. Making sure everything is in the right place, the bag is good, the shoes are good, but still not doing too much.

There are tons of trends out right now everything from studs to sneaker wedges. Are there any that you’re currently into?

Not really. I try to stay away from trends. I probably do wear some at some point, like I love studs. I always have, but I don’t really own anything [with studs].

Are there any accessories you can’t live without?

Probably bangles. I love bangles and rings. That’s something I probably wear every single day no matter what I’m doing. I usually have on two rings or more and some bangles.

Stevie J is a long ago ex with a lot of history. What's it like to see him now on Love and Hip Hop Atlanta? Or do you refuse to watch?

I don’t watch it, I don’t care. It’s not a part of my life, it really isn’t. You know, I’m in love. I’ve been in love for three years so it really doesn’t affect me. I don’t think about it at all.

How do you feel about where you are in your life at this moment?

You know what? Every morning of every day I wake up and I feel completely blessed. I know how blessed I am in my life. It’s definitely a challenge right now, but I feel like my life has always been like that. And I’m excited. You know, new things are happening new music, new album. It feels good, it definitely does. I really feel happy with the response I’ve been getting from people. It’s been very positive so it feels nice.
