BET Talks: Dave East and AraabMuzik Discuss Authenticity, Collaboration, and Their New Project 'Living Proof'

The duo opens up about their creative process behind 'Living Proof,' staying true to their artistry, and how music serves as both therapy and purpose.

In a recent episode of BET Talks, host Mia Bell sat down with rapper Dave East and producer AraabMuzik to discuss their experiences in the music industry, the creative process behind their collaborative project Living Proof, and their advice for aspiring artists. The conversation provided insights into their dedication to authenticity, the power of collaboration, and the therapeutic value of music.

Staying True to Themselves

Both artists emphasized the importance of authenticity in a competitive and ever-changing industry. Dave East reflected on his journey, noting that staying true to himself has been a key factor in his success. “I like how I did it 'cause I still feel like no part of the industry took me away from being myself,” he said. AraabMuzik echoed this, encouraging artists to focus on their craft rather than immediate financial rewards. “Just do the work. Don’t really rely on the payments... it’s all about seeing what works,” he advised.

The Power of Collaboration

Collaboration played a central role in the making of Living Proof. The synergy between East’s lyrical storytelling and AraabMuzik’s distinctive production style resulted in a project that seamlessly blends their strengths. “The fans been wanting me to link with him... it just meshed perfect, like my sound of beats with his lyrics,” said AraabMuzik. East added that their mutual respect and shared history in music made the collaboration effortless.

Music as Therapy

For both artists, music is more than a career—it’s a form of healing. East described how creating music helps him cope with personal challenges. “If I go in the studio, that’s how I vent. I get on a beat and do that,” he shared. AraabMuzik agreed, highlighting music’s universal appeal as a therapeutic outlet. “Music is everyone’s go-to when they’re feeling a certain way,” he said.
