Tina Knowles, Pauletta Washington, Cookie Johnson, and More Shine in Elisa Johnson’s Mother’s Day Campaign
Elisa Johnson is celebrating Mother’s Day by putting some of Black culture’s most beloved women front and center.
The Los Angeles-based eyewear brand has unveiled its new campaign featuring Cookie Johnson, Tina Knowles, LaTanya Richardson Jackson, Pauletta Washington, and Mara Brock Akil — a lineup of star-studded mothers whose influence spans fashion, entertainment, philanthropy, and storytelling.
The campaign was designed to honor motherhood, mentorship, and the kind of legacy that lives far beyond one family tree. In a statement, Johnson said the project came from a deeply personal place, sharing, “Growing up in LA, my mom was my rock. I was really blessed to be surrounded by an incredible village of Black women, all in different industries, truly helping each other succeed.” She added that she wanted the campaign “to show these powerhouse women in a new way,” and said she loved seeing her mother “step into the spotlight after years of supporting others.”
That spotlight looks especially warm and elegant in the campaign visuals, which were shot with an intimate, fashion-forward sensibility. The brand said the imagery is meant to capture the bond between women as well as the strength behind the role of motherhood itself.
Creative director Kyle Bryan said the concept was rooted in “present[ing] these powerhouse Black women through a high fashion lens,” while also leaning into “a narrative that feels modern, powerful, and glamorous.” He described the work as a space where “storytelling, culture, and strong visuals come together in a meaningful way.”
This campaign is a love letter to the women who build, guide, and hold communities together. In honoring Cookie Johnson, Tina Knowles, LaTanya Richardson Jackson, Pauletta Washington, and Mara Brock Akil, the brand is also honoring the many forms motherhood can take and these mothers’ thriving legacies.
