Mariah Carey Honored With Icon Award

The singer was recognized for her songwriting success.

Mariah Carey was the guest of honor at the BMI Urban Music Awards on Friday. The singer was recognized for her songwriting success with the Icon Award and a tribute to the "unparalleled musical superstar." Fantasia Barrino and Eric Benet performed the singer's hits "Hero" and "One Sweet Day" to Carey as she sat in the front row.
Upon receiving her award, Carey, who was recently named as a judge on American Idol, thanked the performers "for doing something so beautiful with the songs I wrote."
"I’m so humbled by this moment because a lot of people still don’t know I write my own songs," she said.
Nicki Minaj, Drake and Lil Wayne were also honored for their work, but were not present to accept their awards.
