St. Louis Girl Shoots Cousin And Herself On Instagram Live

The parents say it was an accident.

A 12-year-old and a 14-year-old are dead after an accidental shooting during an Instagram Live.

According to USA Today, Paris Harvey, 12, and Kuaron Harvey, 14, were on Instagram Live in the early morning hours of March 25 as they were attending a birthday party for a family member. At approximately 2:00 a.m., they were in the bathroom alone. Paris, a seventh grader, reached for the gun and it accidentally fired. St. Louis Today reports both children were shot in the head. They were pronounced dead at the scene.

Paris' mother Shanise Harvey, 35, told KSDK, "They [were] making a video and she was playing with the gun, but it went off and hit him. To my knowledge, then she picked it up, she picked it up by the barrel, and it went off again... It was not a suicide. It was just a freak accident."

Harvey also said she didn't know who the gun belonged to or how her daughter got the weapon. Police originally listed the incident as a murder-suicide but Harvey insists it was a freak accident.

Susan Dyson, Paris’ grandmother said, “It wasn’t a situation where they were arguing or anything like that. They were playing with the gun, when they shouldn’t have been. Of course, they shouldn’t have been doing it. I think it just went off. It went off by mistake.”

The St. Louis Police Department said in a statement on social media, "We are sending our heartfelt condolences to the family of 12-year-old Paris Harvey and 14-year-old Kuaron Harvey who tragically passed away on 03/25/22.”

The tragedy is currently under investigation.
