Security Guard Charged in Shooting Death of Comedian Reggie Carroll
A security guard working with legendary funnyman Katt Williams has been arrested and charged with one count of murder after a Baltimore comedian was fatally shot.
According to Fox 13 Memphis, on Aug. 20, police were called to a Southaven, Miss., building that reportedly houses Williams' tour merchandise, where they found Reggie Carroll suffering from gunshot wounds. Carroll, 52, was taken to a hospital in Memphis, Tenn., and later died from injuries he sustained in the shooting.
Police arrested 38-year-old Trenell Marquise Williams, who was working as a security guard for Williams' comedy dates.
On Tuesday, an eviction notice was left for the company that was renting the building where the shooting reportedly too place. A letter left at the company’s address cited “criminal activity that occurred on or about the premises in violation of [its] lease agreement,” Fox 13 Memphis reports.
Investigators told the news station that the shooting was “isolated” but did not speculate as to what may have led to the comic’s slaying.
Carroll was a well-known comedian on the comedy circuit. He made appearances on “Showtime at the Apollo” – and was in the 2023 standup special “Knockout Kings of Comedy.” He also had a role in an episode of “The Parkers,” a sitcom which starred another Baltimore comic and Carroll’s friend, Mo’Nique.
Mo’Nique took to Instagram to remember her “brother” Reggie Carroll.
“This is why I always say treat people the best you can because you never know if you’ll get a chance to see them again,” Mo’Nique said. “And the last time me and my brother Reggie, girl, was together – that’s what it was, an amazing time being on tour together, being on that road together, what a time, so I have no sad tears because all of our times together was amazing.”
The investigation into the shooting death is still ongoing.
