Sly Stone Avoids Jail, Headed To Rehab

The troubled music great accepts plea deal in drug case.

Funk legend Sly Stone may be able to cop a plea deal that will keep him out of jail, TMZ reports. The musician was busted by police back in April while carrying freebase cocaine, but has since completed 30 days of in-patient rehab. Under the deal, an additional 60 days of rehab would serve in lieu of jail time.
The beleaguered 68-year-old icon has had a turbulent year, with his long battle with drug addiction compounded by an extended period of homelessness. Stone plead no contest when called into court yesterday.

During the 60s and 70s Stone was the mastermind behind funk music group, Sly and the Family Stone. The funk collective was responsible for classic hits like “Everyday People,” and “Family Affair.” After his recent legal and financial troubles members of Stone’s old band offered to help him financially.
