Michigan Basketball Coach Juwan Howard Comments On His Role In Wisconsin Brawl

Howard didn’t care for the way the other coach ended the game.

University of Michigan coach Juwan Howard explained what caused his anger on the basketball court Sunday (Feb. 20) at opposing Wisconsin head coach Greg Gard.

After Michigan lost to Wisconsin 77-63, Gard appeared to grab Howard after Howard seemed to ignore Gard reaching out for a handshake. Things escalated into a scuffle that involved players and coaches from both teams.

The exchange between the coaches was captured on video, below.

Speaking at a news conference after the brawl, Howard said that he commented to Gard that he "would remember that," referring to a timeout Gard took with 15 seconds left in the game and a 15-point lead.

Howard added that he was surprised when Gard grabbed his arm.

"For someone to touch me, I think that was very uncalled for, for him to touch me as we verbalized and communicated with one another. And that's what ended up happening. That's what escalated," Howard stated.
