Dallas Woman Fatally Shot Over Beating Man In Basketball, Family Says

A suspect has not been publicly named by police.

A Dallas woman was reportedly shot to death allegedly over the results of a basketball game she played against an unnamed man.

According to KDFW, the victim’s family says the alleged shooter was a friend, however police have not publicly named a suspect in the case.

The news station reports that the shooting took place on Monday evening (October 10) in South Dallas. 21-year-old Asia Womack was the woman killed, according to her mother Andrea Womack. She tells KDFW that her daughter was playing basketball at T.G. Terry Park just up the street from her home.

"This was supposed to be a friend of Asia's. She's eaten with the man," Andrea said. "She's fed him, and he turned on her and killed her in a vicious way."

Andrea describes Asia as a gifted basketball player and played the sport during her high school days. The family notes she was in a pickup game at the park playing against the man who is said to have shot her after she won.

"This is so senseless," said family friend Pastor John Delley. "You become embarrassed basically because a female beat you in basketball."

According to the family, the shooter took his kids and brother home and came back to the park, shooting Asia five times. Detectives have since recovered video possibly capturing the car speeding away.

"Detectives are still working the case," said Kristin Lowman with Dallas PD, according to the news station. "No one is in custody at this time. They've been working it since Monday night trying to find justice for Miss Womack."

Crime Stoppers is offering $5,000 for information leading to an arrest.
