Barack Obama, Joe Biden, and Bill Clinton To Attend Jesse Jackson’s Celebration of Life Service
The Chicago funeral for the late Jesse Jackson is gearing up to become quite the send-off on Friday, March 6.
According to CBS News, former Presidents Barack Obama, Joe Biden, and Bill Clinton are confirmed guests, along with several other big names in politics and entertainment.
"The People's Celebration" will take over the House of Hope megachurch on the city's South Side. Doors open at 9 a.m., with the service running from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.—a fitting tribute to the man who marched with Dr. King, ran for president twice, and never backed down from a fight for justice.
The late civil rights icon’s celebration of life has already garnered quite the turnout. After lying in state at Rainbow PUSH Coalition headquarters last week, he returned to South Carolina, his Greenville birthplace, for honors at the state capitol.
There, he lay in repose on March 2, drawing crowds who remembered the teen who protested segregated libraries with the "Greenville Eight." A church service then followed that night in West Columbia, a clear tribute to both his roots and the global impact he built in Chicago.
Now back in the Windy City, this public event caps weeks of mourning. Jennifer Hudson and Bebe Winans are also set to perform at Friday’s public memorial.
While a private homegoing service will be held at the Rainbow PUSH headquarters on Saturday.
Flags flew half-staff in states like Minnesota and Iowa, as tributes poured in worldwide. The towering humanitarian died on Feb. 17 at age 84 from a rare neurological degenerative condition called progressive supranuclear palsy. From Operation Breadbasket to Rainbow Coalition, Jackson reshaped politics for Black America and beyond
