MSNBC Cancels Joy Reid’s ‘The ReidOut’ Amid Network Overhaul

The show spent six seasons on primetime.

On Sunday, February 23, it was reported that the primetime news series was canceled after six seasons and that the final episode would air this week. The show’s slot will be filled by “The Weekend” host Symone Sanders Townsend, Michael Steele, and Alicia Menendez. The decision came as MSNBC has begun to overhaul programming.

Before “The ReidOut” premiered in 2020, it was preceded by Reid’s “AM Joy,” which began in 2016, although the news personality has been with the network since 2014. While Reid hasn’t issued a statement on the matter, The Independent reports that MSNBC associates had a “tense” meeting with the show’s staff members.

Some reporters, including those who appeared on “The ReidOut,” supported Reid and slammed the network for cutting her show.

Rebecca Kutler, promoted to MSNBC’s president in January, stated in an internal meeting with network leaders that 2025 would be “exciting and interesting.”

“We have a new company, we have new leadership, we will have new offices, and we have a non-stop news cycle,” Kutler said, per The Hollywood Reporter.
