The First Look at 'Him' Is Here and Marlon Wayans Has Never Looked Scarier

Jordan Peele’s new thriller puts the pressure of greatness under a microscope with a story that’s part sports drama, part psychological breakdown

The trailer for “Him” dropped, and it’s giving eerie ambition, mind games, and that signature uneasy feeling of a Monkeypaw Production. From Jordan Peele and his powerhouse team, the film stars Tyriq Withers as Cameron Cade, a college quarterback on the edge of the NFL dream—until everything comes crashing down. After a brutal attack by an obsessed fan leaves him with a serious brain injury, Cam’s entire identity is shaken. With the NFL Combine around the corner— his body isn’t cooperating. Then, just when it seems like it’s over, in comes his idol with a second chance.

That idol is Isaiah White, played by Marlon Wayans in a dramatic role that feels like a complete departure from his comedic roots. Isaiah offers to train Cam at his private compound: remote, pristine, and way too good to be true. His wife, played by Julia Fox, is a social media icon in her own right, and their world is full of luxury, silence, and something off just beneath the surface. As the workouts intensify, so does the manipulation. Cam’s reality starts bending. The question shifts from whether he’ll recover to whether he’s being rebuilt, or broken down completely.

There’s a heavy psychological layer to this one. The message is beyond just sports. It’s about identity, control, and how the desire for greatness can become a trap. Justin Tipping directs from a script by Zack Akers, Skip Bronkie, and Tipping himself, and the tone already feels like it’s walking the line between thriller and horror. It also marks the big screen debuts of Guapdad 4000, Tierra Whack, and Maurice Greene, alongside appearances from Tim Heidecker and Jim Jefferies.

Monkeypaw knows how to take a familiar world—this time, pro sports—and twist it into something deeply unsettling. “Him” isn’t just asking what you’d do to be the best. It’s showing what might happen when you say yes.
