Doechii, Tyla, GloRilla & More Lead Billboard Women In Music 2025 Honorees

These hip-hop and R&B powerhouses are making waves. Here’s why Billboard is honoring them.

The upcoming Billboard Women In Music 2025 will award multiple female artists across hip-hop and R&B, like Doechii, Erykah Badu, GloRilla, Muni Long and Tyla. With each woman being superstars in their own right, the recognition is only fair, as last year saw significant milestones for each artist.

Badu collaborated with Rapsody on “3 A.M.,” which won Best Melodic Rap Performance at the 67th Annual Grammy Awards. Doechii won her first Grammy in the Best Rap Album category for her mixtape “Alligator Bites Never Heal.” Long released her fourth studio album, “Revenge” and took home Best R&B Performance for her 2023 Soul Train Awards performance of “Made for Me.” Big Glo released her long-awaited debut album “Glorious,” which included viral smashes “Hollon” and “TGIF.” Tyla, who won her first Grammy last year, released the deluxe edition of her eponymous album.

Ahead of the March 29 ceremony, BET.com gives a quick overview of these five Billboard Women In Music recipients and what makes them deserving of the honor.

Doechii

If 2025 is poised to be anyone’s breakthrough year, it’s Doechii. The first-time Grammy winner has gotten the stamp of approval from everyone from Lauryn Hill to Doja Cat, and Billboard will recognize her as Woman of the Year. Over the last year, Doechii met the moment with her show-stopping national tour, performing on NPR Tiny Desk and easily having the best 2025 Grammys performance following her Best Rap Album Win.

Erykah Badu

Although it's been ten years since the release of her mixtape “But You Caint Use My Phone,” Badu continues balancing performance, fashion, and entrepreneurship. In 2024, the Badu World Market founder was dubbed a Fashion Icon by the Council of Fashion Designers of America, while her extensive neo-soul catalog remains timeless. Billboard will extend Badu another Icon Award.

GloRilla

‘Hallelujah’ is her middle name for a reason. Big Glo has made us devotees for her energetic hits, which she’s recently brought to the big stage on her national Glorious Tour. With three Grammy nominations under her belt, GloRilla will win big next month, as Billboard honors her with the Powerhouse Award.

Muni Long

Known for her pen and being a vocal superstar, Long said that “Revenge” is sweet with her 2024 Billboard-recognized singles “Made for Me” and “Make Me Forget.” For her achievements, Long will receive the Rising Star Award.

Tyla

Popiano artist Tyla is no stranger to hitmaking. Following the breakout success of her 2023 single “Water,” the singer has followed up with more sultry tracks like “Jump” and “Push to Start,” making her an international success from South Africa to the world. For her staying power, Tyla will be handed the Impact Award.
