The half-hour program, written by both Rae and Larry Wilmore, will follow the friendship of two modern Black women, Issa Dee (Rae) and Molly (Love That Girl's Yvonne Orji). Although successful professionally, Molly seems to be having trouble finding love. This is where the men come in. The Game's Jay Ellis will play Lawrence, Rae's depressed and unemployed bae who has been struggling to get his life together for the past four years.

The plot was directed by Melina Matsoukas, known mostly for directing the music video for Rihanna's "We Found Love" and several for Beyoncé, including "Diva" and "Pretty Hurts."

Issa Rae became an Internet sensation for her award-winning web series, "The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl," which helped her attract more than 200,000 subscribers and 20 million views on YouTube.
