Mustard Honored By Los Angeles With June 19 'Mustard Day'

One of the West Coast's master beat-makers of hip-hop is getting his dues in a major way.

One of hip-hop's hottest producers is being honored by his hometown in a very special way.

Fresh off of winning a Grammy for his co-penned smash hit, “Boo'd Up,” the city of Los Angeles is honoring Mustard, born Dijon McFarlane, with his own day. From here on out, June 19th is now “Mustard Day” in LA.

  • Getting his start as DJ at house parties, Mustard's career took off after his production on Tyga's "Rack City" launched him from the underground scene into mainstream. Since then, Mustard's beats has become one of hip-hop's most defining sounds.
His family and friends alongside community members filled into the City Hall chambers on Wednesday (June 19) to make the declaration official and pay tribute to the DJ and producer.

Various councilmembers and community members came together to commemorate Mustard for his commitment to give back to his community through various charity initiatives.

“I never would have imagined having a day in the city I was born and raised in,” Mustard candidly shared when it was his turn at the podium. “I am just super grateful and happy that I could even be named, or have a day in this city, because everything I do is for the city.”

  • Ella Mai was also in attendance to celebrate the big occasion.

  • The day was marked by Mustard being declared an ambassador of the Boys and Girls Club of Metro organization. The DJ-producer credited the organization as being instrumental in helping him find his passion in music when he was just getting started as a DJ.

“Mentors, like my Uncle Tyrei, helped me see the possibilities of a career in music and production,” he said. “I want to do the same for thousands of youth at the Clubs and help them fulfill their own personal dreams.”
