Denzel Washington Confronts Fan Who Accused Him Of Drinking After 15 Years Of Sobriety

The actor addressed a heckler in New York City who challenged his sobriety and later turned the tense exchange into a moment centered on faith.

Denzel Washington is setting the record straight after being confronted by a heckling fan who accused him of consuming alcohol despite his years of sobriety.

While out in New York City, the Academy Award winner encountered an autograph seeker who goes by the moniker GTVReality, who began to taunt the actor after being asked to leave him alone.

The agitator continued, claiming he preferred the “Remember The Titans” star “when he was drinking.”

The 70-year-old actor responded firmly, making it clear that he hasn’t had a drink “in over 15 years.”

Washington then shifted the conversation, asking the heckler if he believed in God

“Of course I believe in God,” GTVReality said.

“That’s why I wake up every morning and come out and hustle — not hurt nobody and do dumb sh*t, do n*gga sh*t that n*ggas do in the hood every day. I just get autographs, Mr. Washington. Seriously.”

The fan then asked the “Highest 2 Lowest” star if he too believed in God, prompting Washington to pull out a photo showing a pair of eyes in the clouds.

He asked the man what he saw, and after some thought, the heckler answered, “God.”

“I was praying to God. I couldn’t see your face. Everybody says they can see your face. I heard, ‘Turn to your left.’ That’s what I saw,” the “Gladiator II” actor explained.

Washington ended the conversation with a reminder that the seeker can play games with him, but he can’t play games with God. He then told the heckler to “be carefu” when speaking to him about God.
