Yikes! Brian Windle, a biracial Ohio man, recently shared a disturbing video that got the internet talking. 

In the 20-second footage, first shared by Atlanta Black Star, his white mother is seen calling him the N-word. Windle said he shared the snippet on Facebook (shared here) after his mother, Julie Marie Windle, repeatedly used the slur while yelling at him to leave her house. In the clip, Brian says, “That’s Julie for y’all,” and accuses her of racism, while she shouts at him to “tell everybody” and says she does not care.

The clip of his mother, who is also a nurse in Toledo, quickly spread online and raised questions about whether or not the woman’s employer will act. The case has fueled outrage because it centers on a biracial son who is also a young father of two, a public-facing health care worker, and allegations that the behavior was nothing new.

Brian wrote that his mother has been “doing and saying things like this” his whole life and claimed she was under investigation at work for being racist. 

“...This is my mom,” he wrote in a separate Facebook post. “She’s a nurse director at utmc and has been under investigation for being racist.” He also shared that “when this happens, she says things like I’m gonna wear a sweater with my black kid and my black grandson on it into the meeting…” 

He also said he is trying to save money and move out, and later posted about finding a private landlord and starting a fundraiser to leave the home. His mother was identified as a nurse director at the University of Toledo Medical Center, Atlanta Black Star reports. 

Whether or not the hospital is aware of the incident is not yet known. 

The backlash to the viral video sheds light on broader workplace questions about how employers should respond when racist conduct surfaces publicly and is tied to someone in a position of trust. For Brian, the issue is more personal.“I went through this my whole life and now my kids are starting to see this stuff,” he shared.
