Woman Missing For Eight Days In Forest Found Singing 'Amazing Grace'

Aletha Gee Walton was in a wooded area with extreme heat.

A 69-year-old woman has been found after missing for eight days.

According to CBS News, Aletha Gee Walton went missing on May 17 in Prince Edward County, Virginia. After days of search efforts, she was found on May 24,  approximately 0.8 miles from her home in a wooded area, sitting on a tree stump singing the hymn “Amazing Grace.” Over the course of the eight days, the area had extreme heat and storms.

Prince Edward County Sheriff's Office did not reveal why Walton went missing but her family revealed she suffers from the early stages of dementia.

Sheriff Tony Epps said in a statement, "This has been incredibly challenging, but we are thrilled to be able to provide the family the best possible outcome. I have spoken with the family and they relayed their appreciation to everyone involved in the search for their loved one."

Sandra Knight, Walton's sister, said, "We just broke down and cried, all of us. We didn't know what to think. We thought somebody had kidnapped her or whatever. We didn't know what had happened.”

As for being found singing, Knight added, "Amazing Grace. God was with her the whole time.”
