Celebrities React To The Passing Of Sidney Poitier

Halle Berry, Kerry Washington, Viola Davis and more are honoring the Hollywood legend.

The world is mourning the loss of Hollywood icon Sidney Poitier.

The Bahamian-American actor passed away at 94 years old. According to the New York Times, Poitier’s passing was confirmed by Eugene Torchon-Newry, the acting director general of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Bahamas.

Born in Miami, Florida, in 1927, but raised in the Bahamas, Poitier is known for the films  In the Heat of the Night to Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner and Lilies of the Field, which won him an Academy Award for best actor in 1964. Poitier was the first Black man to win an Oscar.
