‘The Truth Is Finally Out’: Lizzo Said Fat-Shaming Claims Dropped By Accusers

The singer said the weight-based allegation had no merit, but other claims in the 2023 lawsuit remain under dispute.

Lizzo said the “fat shaming” claim in the lawsuit brought by three former backup dancers has been dropped, and she’s calling it a partial vindication.

“The fat-shaming claims against me have been officially dropped by my accusers,” the singer wrote in a video caption this week. “They conceded it had no merit in court. There was no evidence that I fired them because they gained weight. Because it never happened.”

In her post, Lizzo insisted the dancers were dismissed for secretly recording her and sharing the footage with ex-employees, not for their physical appearance. “They weren't fired for gaining weight. They were fired for taking a private recording of me without my consent and sending it off to ex-employees,” she said, calling the concession “the truth” finally coming out. Lizzo also added that the development is “devastating,” but she is relieved that this portion of the case has been resolved.

However, her legal fight is far from over. Plaintiffs’ attorneys note most other claims in the 2023 suit — including allegations of a hostile work environment and sexual harassment — remain active, and a judge previously denied efforts to throw out the broader case. Lawyers for the dancers said they plan to continue pursuing those remaining claims.

This dispute played out against a larger cultural conversation about body image and accountability. Lizzo has been a loud and visible defender of body positivity while also facing intense public scrutiny over weight and health in recent years.

While Lizzo celebrates this small legal win, she knows that was a battle, not the war. “I am not settling,” Lizzo said. “I will be fighting every single claim until the truth comes out.”
