Queen Latifah to Star in Sony Drama Miracles From Heaven

She will play a Boston waitress in the faith-based film.

Though she recently saw major success in her latest movie venture, Bessie, Queen Latifah is showing no signs of slowing down. As a matter of fact, she already has her next project lined up as, according to the Hollywood Reporter, the former talk show host has signed on to star in the Sony faith-based drama Miracles From Heaven.

The film is based on Christy Beam's book of the same name which follows the story of how a woman's younger daughter miraculously overcomes an incurable and nearly fatal digestive disorder. Queen is in good company as she is set to star alongside Jennifer Garner, who will serve as the main character. Queen will play a Boston waitress who, throughout the story, becomes an earthly guardian angel who befriends the sick girl and her mother (Garner) to bring them hope, comfort and help in their time of need.

Miracles From Heaven will serve as the follow-up to the highly grossing 2014 film Heaven Is for Real, which earned more than $100 million worldwide. The film is slated to be released on March 18, 2016, one week before the Easter holiday.
Meanwhile, the man largely responsible for the current run of Black films dominating the box office is packing his slate with even more titles. Will Packer, the producer behind Think Like a Man, Ride Along and practically every other Black comedy that's come out in the past few years, is partnering with Universal for an untitled female-driven comedy.
Details are being kept tightly under wraps, but we do know that Malcolm D. Lee (The Best Man Holiday) is attached to direct, Kenya Barris (Black-ish) and Tracy Oliver are penning the script and that the plot is something about a girl's trip. The move brings together two genres that have been proven winners at the box office: Black films and female-driven comedies. Hopefully more details will come soon.
