Kodak Black’s Mother Hires Trayvon Martin’s Lawyer Amid Abuse Claims At Miami Prison

Last week, Kodak posted an alarming message on Instagram in which he alleged someone is trying to “strategically" kill him in prison.

On the heels of Kodak Black’s troubling allegations of abuse at the hands of Miami Federal Detention Center officials, the Florida rapper’s mother, Marcelene Simmons, has hired a lawyer to help her look into the matter, as reported by WVSN 7News.

  • According to earlier reports, the Florida rapper posted a lengthy message to his official Instagram account where he levied the disturbing claims against the correctional facility, which included being beaten and starved among other alleged instances of mistreatment.

“They are strategically killing me slowly in here,” the letter stated. “I have been humiliated over and over again.”

  • On Wednesday (Jan. 22), the Miami news outlet reported that Simmons enlisted civil rights attorney Benjamin Crump to assist her going forward. The news was revealed at a press conference where Simmons was joined by Crump and his co-counsel, Devon Jacob and Sue-Ann Robinson. Crump famously represented Trayvon Martin’s family during their case against the man who killed Martin, George Zimmerman, in 2013.

  • Simmons and Crump told the news outlet that they believe Kodak’s civil rights are being violated. Jacob further stated that they were supposed to meet with Kodak that morning for a wellness check. Hours before their meeting, he was inexplicably bussed to another federal prison in Kentucky.

“We know something happened in that prison,” Crump voiced. “We believe they intentionally moved him, so he couldn’t meet with his attorneys.”

In tears, Simmons said, “I want to make sure my son is OK. I want to make sure they don’t kill my son,” adding “If they kill my son, if my son dies, I’m going to kill myself too. My son, after God, my son is life to me. My son is everything for me.”
