‘Because Of You’ Singer Keith Martin Dies At 55
R&B singer and songwriter Keith Martin, best known for his ballad “Because of You,” was found dead Friday (March 25) in his Quezon City condo in the Philippines, The Philippine Star reports. He was 55.
Martin's lifeless body was reportedly found after a neighbor complained to the property manager about smelling a foul odor. Investigators believe the American artist died at least a week before they found his body.
Martin's last public appearance was a live performance on March 12 at the wedding reception of local celebrity Daryl Ong and wife Dea Formilleza in Antipolo City, according to Rappler.com.
Several local celebs and friends shared their condolences on social media.
Singer Kyla tweeted her sympathies. “In shock and in disbelief. You will be missed, Keith Martin.. Thank you for the inspiration. You will leave a legacy of great music that is timeless and will always be remembered.”
Filipino-American singer Kris Lawrence wrote on Facebook, “Damn…this news is shocking. Gone too soon Keith Eric Martin. You will be missed brotha. Your music will live in our hearts forever.”
The Washington, D.C.-born singer shot to fame in the 1990s. His resume includes the hit song “Never Find Someone Like You.” He gained popularity in Asia and maintained a home in the Philippines, where he worked as a record producer and collaborated with local musicians.
