The University of Connecticut got its perfect ending. Just 24 hours after UConn's men captured an NCAA title, the Lady Huskies finished their season 40-0 after beating Notre Dame 79-58 in the NCAA Women's Championship game in Nashville, TN. This is the school's ninth women's title under head coach Geno Auriemma and the second in as many years.
Billed as the battle of the unbeatens, UConn (39-0) Notre Dame (37-0), the game was hardly as competitive as pre-game prognosticators predicted. The size of the Lady Huskies was too much for the smaller Fighting Irish to handle. Points in the paint came easy for UConn's formidable frontcourt of 6-foot-4-inch sophomore forward Breanna Stewart and 6-foot-5-inch senior center Stefanie Dolson.
From the start, Stewart proved why she is college basketball's biggest matchup nightmare. Stewart made easy buckets around the rim all night, leading the Lady Huskies with 21 points on her way to being named the Most Outstanding Player. Dolson was just as impressive, finishing the game just three assists shy of a triple double, 17 points, 16 rebounds, 7 assists.
Led by feisty senior guard Kayla McBride (21 Points), the Irish stayed in the game early behind some sharp outside shooting. Notre Dame came into the game armed with the offensive firepower to run with UConn, the problem however was on the defensive side of the court. The Huskies' lead ballooned to as much as 20 in the second half. By the five minute mark in the game, it was clear Connecticut fans would be celebrating for a second consecutive night in Storrs.

The Lady Huskies are now a perfect 9-0 in NCAA national title games. Futhermore, between the men and the women, UConn is undefeated (13-0) in NCAA Championship games.
