SHAVONE. Reclaims Her Mic With 'Peekaboo' Freestyle, a Fierce Ode to Black Beauty, Bars, and the West Coast

The rapper, flautist, and multi-hyphenate disruptor flips a Kendrick Lamar track into a bold, flute-laced freestyle celebrating Black glam, San Diego roots, and lyrical finesse.

When SHAVONE. steps into a new era, she doesn’t just drop a track—she builds a world.

The genre-bending creative force has returned with the BLONDE YAKI “Peekaboo” Freestyle, a fearless, flute-laced remix of Kendrick Lamar’s original banger. It’s a sharp lyrical offering packed with hometown pride, classical precision, and unapologetic glam—marking the latest chapter in SHAVONE.’s ever-expanding cultural playbook.

Following the success of her Amazon bestselling book BLACK INTERNET EFFECT and her powerhouse SHIFT CTRL event in L.A.—a celebration of Black DJs, creatives, and community—SHAVONE. is back behind the mic to remind everyone why she’s a problem. But not just in rap. In music. In tech. In fashion. And in the very infrastructure of what it means to be a multi-hyphenate Black woman pushing culture forward.

The “Peekaboo” freestyle hits like a sonic reclamation. SHAVONE. raps bar for bar while layering in original flute cadences, a nod to her classical music roots and a reminder that she’s never fit neatly into one lane. Her delivery is confident, witty, and grounded—just like the city she shouts out throughout: Southeast San Diego.

Directed by SHAVONE. herself alongside longtime friend and fellow San Diego native Filthy McDave, the video was shot at Volume Studios in Inglewood and features cameos from FOC’s Kelvyn Colt and Southeast SD rapper Tiny Doo. But it’s the visual world she builds—equal parts throwback salon fantasy and West Coast streetwear flex—that steals the show.

Styled by her mother Bonnie, a lifelong beautician, SHAVONE. debuts her “BLONDE YAKI” era with a cascade of fuchsia crimps, a sharp swoop, and enough nostalgic glam to make any 2000s beauty poster proud. Topped off with a Balenciaga jacket and Nike TL Shox, it’s a West Coast aesthetic with deep cultural roots—and a personal story to match.

This release also marks a new milestone for SHAVONE.’s creative collective, Future of Creatives (FOC). The freestyle visual is one of the platform’s first official music productions—a move that signals SHAVONE.’s commitment not just to making art, but building ecosystems for others to thrive in it too.

And she’s not stopping at one track. Alongside “Peekaboo,” SHAVONE. dropped Dot Pack: a two-track bundle that also features “MORTICIA,” a haunting freestyle over Kendrick’s “Watch the Party Die.” Both tracks showcase her range—one playful and punchy, the other moody and meditative.

With more music, visuals, and community-rooted projects coming this summer, SHAVONE. is proving that she’s not just in her bag—she is the bag. Her ability to merge bars, branding, and Black cultural homage isn’t just a flex. It’s a blueprint.
