Shannon Sharpe's Defense Remains Unfiled Ahead of Key Hearing

The Pro Football Hall of Famer was accused of several sexual assault charges in April and a hearing is scheduled in Nevada court for Wednesday, July 9.

Shannon Sharpe still hasn’t offered a legal response to the bombshell sexual assault lawsuit that was levied against him in April.

According to a report by Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio, Sharpe has yet to file an official response to the lawsuit in Nevada court, with a hearing set for July 9 (Wednesday). A former attorney, Florio noted that legal responses “are typically due within 30 days of a lawsuit being filed.” At the court’s discretion, extensions can be filed by attorneys on behalf of their clients.  As of this writing, Sharpe’s legal team has remained silent.

“A hearing on three different motions to associate counsel is set for July 9, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. local time. The hearing originally had been set for June 30,” Florio said.

Per the suit, the woman and Sharpe had a "rocky consensual relationship" lasting almost two years, but it turned "controlling" and "abusive." Also, the suit describes several aggressive encounters with Sharpe.

The plaintiff is represented by attorneys Micah Nash and Tony Buzbee, the latter known for representing numerous women in high-profile sexual misconduct cases including former NFL quarterback Deshaun Watson.

When news of the suit went public, Sharpe and his attorney, Lanny Davis, said they offered the plaintiff at least $10 million to settle the case, which fueled the coverage for multiple days.

Vehemently denying the charges levied against him, Sharpe described the lawsuit as a “shake down.”

"This is a shakedown. I'm going to be open, transparent, and defend myself because this isn't right," Sharpe said in an Instagram video on April 22. "This is all being orchestrated by Tony Buzbee... I believe he is going to release a 30-second clip of a sex tape that tries to make me look guilty and plays into every stereotype you can possibly imagine."

In April, Sharpe announced his hiatus from his role on ESPN’s First Take, noting that he would be back for the NFL preseason.
