Los Angeles journalist Steve Lopez (played by Robert Downey Jr.) searches for his next story but soon befriends a homeless man, former Juilliard-trained musician Nathaniel Ayers (played by Jamie Foxx). As time progresses, Steve begins to learn that the story he sought out may be the answer to the life he needed.

Will Nathaniel's story become public record? Or will Steve keep this major lesson all to himself?
