Kimora Lee Simmons Said She’s a ‘Surrogate Mom’ to the Late Kim Porter’s Twins

On ‘Today,’ the fashion mogul revealed she still cares for Porter’s children and joked, ‘I have my kids, and then I have kids on the side.’

Kimora Lee Simmons’ family just got even bigger!

On “Today with Jenna & Friends,” the fashion entrepreneur, reality star, and mother of 5 described herself as a “surrogate mom” to children in her inner circle, including the twin daughters of her late friend, Kim Porter. “I have my kids, and then I have kids on the side,” Simmons said with a laugh. “I have a stepdaughter — well, an additional daughter. I have another son, bonus son, who’s on the show, Jaden, another one who’s just been with us for many, many years.”

Simmons made it clear that her love and caretaking runs deep. “One of my friends who passed away, Kim Porter, I have all of her kids,” she said. “Even though some of them are adults, but some of them are 18 — twins.” Porter, who died in 2018, was mother to twins D’Lila and Jessie (now 18), as well as sons Quincy and Christian.

This abundant pack of offspring joins Simmons’ own kids: Ming Lee and Aoki Lee (with ex-husband Russell Simmons), Kenzo (with Djimon Hounsou), Wolfe (with former husband Tim Leissner), and she formally adopted Gary in 2020 when he was 10. There’s enough of Simmons’ love to go around, and she spreads it wholeheartedly.

Simmons’ expanding family dynamic is on full display in her rebooted reality show, “Kimora: Back in the Fab Lane.” It’s been over a decade since the series first premiered, showing Simmons juggling business, motherhood, and the village of her bustling household.

Whether it’s birthday posts celebrating teen milestones or late-night calls with her kids, Simmons has fully leaned into the beautiful chaos and warmth of motherhood. “I’m a lot of people’s mom,” she said, and for a modern celebrity balancing empire and family, that’s a flex.
