J. Cole, Drake And The Weeknd Shared Heartwarming Messages With 11-Year-Old Fan Before He Passed Away From Cancer

We’re not crying — you are.

The news cycle has taken a bleak downturn amid the global coronavirus pandemic underway.

Fortunately, the silver lining has been discovered in the humanity that’s brought the world even closer together through technology as millions of global citizens practice social distancing and self-quarantines. The music community have also been doing their part to uplift their fans’ spirits.

  • Recently, Drake, J. Cole and The Weeknd were able to connect with one of their biggest fans: an 11-year-old cancer patient named Elijah. Unfortunately, Elijah succumbed to the disease last Friday (March 27), but he was able to virtually meet his three most favorite artists via Facetime before his untimely passing. On Monday (March 30), his cousin, Michael Watson, shared a video of the moment on Instagram. In the video, The Weeknd and J. Cole can be heard sending Elijah their best wishes. “I’m so honored to be one of your favorite artists, buddy,” The Weeknd shared. Along with the video, Watson dedicated the post to his late cousin with a heartrending message about Elijah’s bravery.

“Over the past 3 years, my 11 y.o. cousin, Elijah, has battled cancer with the utmost resilience. Elijah's physical fight is now complete, as he transitioned to heaven on Friday. He didn't leave this world without knowing how much he was loved though,” Watson wrote. “Last weekend, Elijah got to ‘meet’ 3 of his favorite artists — The Weeknd, J. Cole, & Drake. Incredibly grateful for these 3 super-humans being so caring for my family during this time. We’ll hold onto these moments forever.”

  • Additionally, he called for people to shower Elijah’s family with their love and support in the wake of their tragic loss. “Please lift Kiara, Elijah's mom, and the rest of the fam up in your thoughts & prayers. In a time where there seems like so much is out of our control, one thing that we all have the power to give + show others is LOVE,” he acknowledged, invoking scripture from the Book of 2 Corinthians.

BET sends it condolences and prayers to Elijah’s family. May he rest in peace.
