Chance the Rapper Boycotts Chiraq

Chicago native calls Spike Lee's film "exploitative and problematic.”

Chance the Rapper won’t be supporting the latest Spike Lee joint. The Chicago native blasted Lee’s Chiraq on Twitter today calling it “exploitative and problematic.”

“That s**t get ZERO love out here. S**t is goofy,” Chance tweeted adding that Chiraq features actors who aren’t from Chicago “telling u to support that s**t.”

Chiraq is an adaptation of the Greek play Lysistrata, in which women refused sex to end war. Lee’s film applies the concept as a remedy to Chicago’s rampant violence. However, Chance questions the motive. “The people that made that s**t didn't do so to ‘Save Lives.’ It's exploitive and problematic.”

His statements echo that of Rhymefest, another Chicago native who criticized the film. Still, Lee wants people to give it a fair chance. “Wait to the movie comes out and if you don’t like it, you don’t like it, but see it first.”

Chiraq opens in theaters today.
