Bobby Shmurda is fed up with Epic Records and he wants off the imprint, the New York Times reports. 

Shmurda, birth name Ackquille Pollard, went from a budding rap star to an inmate after he was arrested with several others on various gun and drug charges late last year. Since then, the 20-year-old claims the label has abandoned him.

At the time of his arrest, Shmurda was at a New York City recording studio with Epic executive Sha Money XXL, who signed him. After the bust, Sha clarified that he wasn’t arrested and called out the media for “dragging” the young rapper down.

That public show of support has apparently dried up. “The label only cares about what you’re contracted to produce — the deliverables,” noted entertainment lawyer and writer Reggie Ossé. “Who’s that bridge to take you from this world to a safer world? There is no bridge.”

Shmurda caught Epic’s attention after his “Hot N***a” single became popular last year. The 2014 summer rap anthem, which has sold close to a million copies to date, came complete with its own dance. (Beyoncé even tried out her Schmoney moves during the On the Run Tour.)

All of the attention landed him a reported $1 million dollar deal with Epic, and chances are that the label has “made their money back at least two or three times over," all while Shmurda remains locked up. The Brooklyn rapper is so ready to walk that he doesn’t even care about his smash single.

“I’m going to try my best to go back on the deal,” he said. “If not, I’ll give them their music and bounce.”
