Oprah Sells A Portion Of Her ‘Promised Land’ For More Than Double What She Paid
Oprah Winfrey is downsizing.
The media mogul has sold a four-acre parcel of her sprawling Montecito estate, “Promised Land,” for $17.1M. Winfrey is still prominently planted at “Promised Land” as she still controls about 60 acres nearby.
The property was one of the newer additions to Winfrey’s holdings, which she bought from Jeff Bridges in 2019 for $6.85M after Bridges and his wife, Susan Geston, restored the Spanish-Revival home following destructive mudslides. The 1919 house is about 3,500 sqft., features two bedrooms, four bathrooms, beamed ceilings, hardwood floors, five fireplaces, a brick patio with a fire pit, a pool and spa, a separate guest house and pool houses, and equestrian facilities on the property.
The primary suite features two walk-in closets, each designed as a dressing room, and an ensuite bathroom with heated teak floors, a soaking tub, a glass-enclosed shower, and dual vanities.
Architectural details and the carriage house setup helped the home command a big gain. Winfrey saw the vision. She bought the home for under $7M and sold it this year for more than double that price. Even after the sale of such a significant portion of her estate, Winfrey’s not retreating from the Montecito property. She still owns substantial acreage there as well as properties in Colorado and Hawaii.
