Morgan Freeman and Spike Lee Receive Awards

AFI gives iconic actor Life Achievement Award and Brooklyn’s beloved filmmaker gets the highest degree.

Morgan Freeman has received many awards since starring on The Electric Company as Count Dracula and he can add another to his mantle. Thursday night, the prestigious American Film Institute (AFI) held its annual awards gala and tonight was all about honoring an actor who can be in films like Glory and Bucket List as effortlessly as he can play Mandela or a convict escaping from prison.

Yesterday, AFI also honored the Knick’s most loyal fan, Spike Lee, with a doctorate's degree of Fine Arts, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter. Well deserving of the title, the director was present for the commencement ceremony, along with actress Helen Mirren. The Oscar-winning British thespian also received a doctorate in fine arts.
