Diddy's Commentary On The "King of R&B" Debate Deserves A Standing Ovation

Take notes, people.

Ever since Cash Money signee Jacquees launched a digital war about who claimed the throne as the crème de la crème of the R&B game, every soulful crooner we once knew yet still love have stepped forward to speak their piece. From the current platforms of Tank, Tyrese, and Trey Songz to J. Holiday, Bobby Valentino and Pleasure P emerging from the shadows to let their stance be publicly known, the debate has yet to resolved.

Bad Boy mogul Diddy usually sits back and watches social media drama unfold from the sidelines, but today, (Dec. 11) he hopped onto his virtual soapbox to clarify to true definition of what it means to be the King of R&B.

“Heard we talking about some king sh*t. Y’all know I usually mind my business, but R&B is the foundation of my life,” Puff began. “To be a king, that’s some other shit. That word ‘king’ is too loosely thrown around. Now, I understand the concept that we are all kings. I understand that, but if we’re talking about that in the competitive arena of music, cats give away the ‘king’ thing too early. A couple of hits ain’t gon do it.”

  • “Let’s get to the topic of R&B. We talking bout rhythm and blues,” the ‘Press Play’ emcee continued

“We talking bout sharing your soul. We talkin bout making love through your music. Adoring a woman… So in order to be the King of R&B, first of all, you gotta start making some R&B.”

The New York native continued to fire off rounds that had many scrambling for a pen and paper. “You have to be vulnerable. You have to be speaking about love. You have to affect women in a positive way and your ass gotta be able to sing. We talking about really sing.”

Let’s not forget this is the same man behind the iconic R&B group Day26 and Puff invented music-based reality shows… So we’re sure he knows what he’s talking about.

“So all you future Kings, I want you to be inspired… Sing somebody’s jaws off. Then, you gotta write a number one record. You gotta have a whole bunch of number one records that really mean something… Somebody please make some R&B and send it to me, King or Queen. Let’s make love.”

However, before he “signed off,” Puff detonated a jaw-dropping bomb. "R&B is not being made right now. This is not R&B…" Yikes.

  • However, fans already have found the way to settle this debate once and for all, thanks to Diddy himself
