10-Year-Old Farmer Kendall Rae Johnson Earns Full Scholarship to South Carolina State
Kendall Rae Johnson is continuing to break barriers in agriculture. The South Fulton, Georgia fifth grader, who became the nation’s youngest certified farmer at just six years old, has now been awarded a full-ride scholarship to South Carolina State University. The honor highlights how her passion for farming is not only transforming her family’s life but also shaping her future.
In her backyard, Kendall grows fresh vegetables, tends animals, and helps manage family crops, a love for the land that began with a single garden and blossomed into something bigger.
“She just wanted to grow,” her mother, Ursula, explained. “Once she found her love of growing, that blossomed into what you see today.” Inspired by Kendall’s vision, her family says they are simply following her lead. “It’s living with the ceiling open,” Ursula added. “We have no idea where we’re going, but we’re just following.”

The surprise left her mother stunned as she slid behind the wheel of her new ride. “It’s so clean! I’m not used to it,” she said with a smile. Rose followed up with another post showing her mom driving off in style, adding the playful caption, “100k on u like it’s nothing bae.” The moment highlighted not just Rose’s success, but also her deep gratitude and love for the woman who raised her.

Baltimore Launches $3 Billion Grant Program to Revitalize Vacant Homes
Baltimore is tackling its vacant housing crisis head-on with a new grant program designed to restore abandoned properties and strengthen neighborhoods, Black Enterprise reports. Applications open September 10 for the initiative, which will provide funding to property owners and residents in the city’s special tax district to help convert long-neglected buildings into residential homes. The program aims to transform rundown blocks into vibrant communities and increase homeownership in areas hit hardest by disinvestment.
Mayor Brandon Scott announced that $3 billion will be invested over the next 15 years to combat vacancy and rebuild trust in overlooked neighborhoods. “My administration is taking on a challenge that’s been ignored for generations — vacant housing — delivering $3 billion to end this crisis for good within 15 years,” Scott said in a statement. He added that the funds will not only help restore homes but also preserve communities and expand opportunities for residents, noting, “It will take all of us working together to get there.”
