Timbaland Teases AI Record Featuring The Notorious B.I.G.

The super producer said he “always” wanted to work with the Brooklyn native.

Timbaland has entered the artificial intelligence conversation and instantly sparked a debate online after unveiling a new record he’s been working on featuring the late Notorious B.I.G. vocals.

In an Instagram post, the 51-year-old acknowledged the controversy behind the latest technology and “the feelings of violating certain things, but let me tell you something. I got a solution.”

He reiterated, “I got a solution… We working on it .. it’s going to be beneficial to everybody, but in the meantime, you know, I got to share something that I‘ve been working on because I always wanted to do this, and I never got the chance to.”

The “Give It To Me” artist went on to share that he always wanted to work with the Brooklyn rapper, but he never got the chance to “until today. It came out right.”

The untitled track left many listeners in the comment section uneasy. One user shared their view on the matter, an opinion echoed by many, stating that  “I really don’t know how to feel about this (as a huge BIG fan). This is hard asf but, all I keep asking myself is…if I was Big would I want people making their own version of me?” Another critic commented, “Sounds dope but don’t feel right.”

Timbaland has also been working on new music with Missy Elliott. Ahead of becoming the first female hip-hop artist to be nominated and inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the “Hot Boyz” artist had been working on “lots of songs” that she and her longtime collaborator were “gonna start recording soon,” Timbaland said in a recent interview.

He continued, “I know how Missy works: It’s got to be new and fun — or maybe not so much new as kind of underground, and everything is upbeat,” before adding, “Some of it has a kind of Latin feel to it, almost a Bad Bunny effect, some of it’s kinda like underground Brazilian funk.” The super producer hopes to release the project sometime around Missy’s birthday in July.
