Lauryn Hill Begins 3-Month Prison Sentence

Ms. Hill checks into federal facility.

Lauryn Hill has checked into a Danbury, CT, federal prison this morning to begin her three-month sentence. TMZ reports that at 11:15 a.m. EST, the 38-year-old mother of six was booked into the Federal Correctional Institution, where she will reside with the general population for the next several weeks.
The Connecticut location is described as a "minimum security type facility" with inmates living in "barracks housing," quarters once used for temporary confinement and more commonly seen in military sleeping units.

Once released, Hill will be placed on house arrest.
From the start, Hill blamed the money missteps on wanting to protect her family, which she accomplished by falling off the radar. The New Jersey native re-emerged to the spotlight only to find a hefty tax bill, stemming from $1.8 million in earnings between 2005 and 2007. Last year Hill pleaded guilty to tax evasion, and in April made an emergency payment to the IRS covering most of the seven-figure debt. Unfortunately, the leftover balance for late fees and other penalties couldn't fend off prison time.
While she's away Hill's ex, and father of five of her six children, Rohan Marley, has offered to take care of their brood. He will switch off custody between himself and the former Fugees front woman's family.
Doing time over taxes places the rapper/singer hybrid alongside a growing list of her musical colleagues. Among them is Fat Joe, who was recently sentenced to four months, and Ja Rule, who served two years for the same offense and was freed from prison in May.
