NY Woman Who Went Viral in Pakistan Over Failed Wedding Reportedly Flying Home

Onijah Robinson’s journey from a rejected marriage proposal to an internet sensation appears to be coming to an end.

A New York woman is reportedly returning to the U.S. after a journey to Pakistan in pursuit of love turned into an international spectacle.

Multiple outlets reported that 33-year-old Onijah Andrew Robinson traveled to Karachi in October 2024, hoping to marry 19-year-old Nidal Ahmed Memon, whom she had met online. However, upon arrival, Memon refused to marry her, citing his family’s opposition, ultimately leaving Robinson stranded in a foreign country as her visa had expired.

What followed was a bizarre saga that turned the young woman into an overnight social media sensation. Robinson allegedly remained in Karachi, wandering aimlessly after Memon’s family vacated and locked up their home.

Her predicament gained widespread attention when she began making a series of demands on social media and even organized a press conference in Pakistan.

“I’m asking for 100K or more. I need 20K by this week, in my pockets, in cash. That’s a demand to the government,” she declared in one viral clip. While initially, it seemed she was requesting financial aid to settle in Pakistan, her motives became unclear as she continued to demand various amounts of money from unspecified sources.

Robinson also said she wanted to improve Pakistan’s infrastructure and bus services, further confusing viewers.

A man identifying himself as her son, Jeremiah Robinson, spoke to Pakistani media, shedding light on her mental health struggles. He stated that his mother suffers from bipolar disorder and that no marriage between her and Memon ever took place.

“I’m trying to help her as her son to come back to the U.S. She was only supposed to go to Pakistan to meet him and his family,” he explained.

As of Monday(Feb. 3), Robinson is reportedly en route back to the U.S., though it remains unclear who facilitated her return.
