Romney Campaign Swag a Big Hit in Kenya

Hundreds of young Kenyans are sporting Romney-Ryan T-shirts and hats.

There's nothing wrong with this picture.

President Obama's ancestral connection to Kenya has sparked a keen interest in American politics, particularly among young people. And if given a choice, they would likely have picked him to win each time.

But these days it's Romney-Ryan campaign gear that has hundreds of children and teenagers in Kenya smiling. After the Republican presidential nominees lost their White House bid last fall, they were left with unused hats and T-shirts. Much of it has been donated to The Orbit Village Project in the African nation, founded by Cyndy Waters, whose nephew was a Romney county campaign director.

The shirts and hats were handed out on the Fourth of July, Waters said, and were a "real blessing" for the children and teens whose housing, education and other needs are provided by Orbit.

"It was a big deal that they could pick between short or long sleeved and blue and white," Waters told BuzzFeed. "For an African youth from such an impoverished area to pick out something new is very rare."

Waters also told the web site that her organization will happily accept similar donations from other campaigns.
