Van Hunt Says His Marriage Proposal to Halle Berry Is ‘Still Floating’—Here’s Why

During their first sit-down together, the couple discussed wedding goals and clapped back at online critics.

Van Hunt and Halle Berry are opening up about love, longevity, and why their wedding plans are taking their sweet time.

In their first joint interview, the longtime couple sat down with TODAY with Jenna & Friends, where Hunt revealed that he had already popped the question, but Berry hadn’t officially said yes just yet.

“So I put out the proposal, and it’s still on hold as you can see,” Hunt admitted. “It’s just out there floating. You know, maybe you can encourage her.”

However, Berry had her reasons for the pause. “Well, I’ve been married three times. Van has been married once, and so no, we don’t feel like we have to get married to validate our love in any way. We don’t,” she explained.

Still, she added, “I think we will get married just because, out of the people I’ve been married to, this is the person I should have married. And I feel like I should, we should get married, but it’s not because we feel like we have to. I think it’s something that we would like to do just because we want that expression.”

However, even with a delayed yes, Berry confirmed a wedding is on the horizon: “I do plan to say ‘I do,’ and ‘soon.’”

During the interview, Berry also addressed the backlash to her Mother’s Day post, which featured the two cozied up in bed promoting Let’s Spin lubricant.

“Other women got in their feelings,” she said. “They were saying, ‘Should she be talking about that on Mother’s Day? Shouldn’t she be with her kids somewhere?’ First of all, it’s not ‘Kid’s Day.’ It’s called Mother’s Day… If I want to be in bed and spin with my man, then that’s what I’m going to do.”

Berry shares daughter Nahla, 17, with Gabriel Aubry, and son Maceo, 11, with ex-husband Olivier Martinez. Hunt has one son from a previous relationship.
