Lizzo Says ‘All’ the Rappers Started Sliding Into Her DMs After Fame

On Benny Blanco’s podcast, the “Don’t Make Me Love U” singer recalled how celebrity flirting took her by surprise once her career took off and even shared that she lost her virginity a few years ago.

Lizzo said her DMs were poppin’ once fame hit

In a recent appearance on Benny Blanco’s Friends Keep Secrets” podcast, the singer said that after she broke through with her 2019 album “Cuz I Love You,” a wave of celebrity attention followed — especially from rappers.

When she was asked about the “craziest” celebrity to slide into her DMs, Lizzo answered, “All of them,” making it clear the message wasn’t one person, but a whole slew of them.

Lizzo was surprised. She explained that growing up, she did not see herself as someone boys noticed, saying she felt invisible as a teenager because of how fatness was treated where she lived. She said that when the flirty messages started coming in after fame, she did not immediately read them as flirting and often needed other people to explain what the sender was actually after.

She said she was “really confused” by the attention, because she had spent so long being told she was not the kind of girl boys wanted. Later, she realized the DMs were not always just friendly check-ins. As she put it, people had to tell her, “Hey, no. This person is trying to f*ck you.”

However, Lizzo was not about that romp-in-the-sheets life. The flute-playing songbird also admitted on the podcast that she was “a late bloomer.” She shared that she had her first kiss at 21-years-old and it was “terrible.” She explained that the kiss was forced on her at a New Year's Eve event. “I was really mad and I was like, 'My first kiss is ruined.' I was so mad," Lizzo added.

"Ya'll have no idea. It was religious for me too. Like, when we were teenagers at my church, we all made a pact that we wouldn't do anything before marriage. And then, I was just so scared," she explained.

She also shared that she lost her virginity in 2020. Lizzo, 37, said, “I promised myself when I was younger that I wouldn't have sex until I won a Grammy." Lizzo won her first Grammy in 2020.

Despite the fumbles, Lizzo still found love. She is currently in a relationship with Myke Wright, The lovebirds went public in 2022 and have known each other since 2016, when they were cohosts for MTV's music series “Wonderland.”

Lately, Lizzo has been building out the next phase of her music era, with a new single and her upcoming album “Love in Real Life.” Lizzo said her glow-up was real, but so was the learning curve that came with being seen.
