After Criticizing NFL Protests, Papa Johns Cuts Ties With The League, Pizza Hut Swoops In And Players Are Happy About It

Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz tweeted "I can get down with some @Pizzahut."

Just one day after the pizza franchise Papa John’s announced it is ending the endorsement deal with the NFL, Pizza Hut came in and became the league’s new official pizza sponsor.

Papa John’s, who was supposed to have a deal with the NFL until 2020, will end its deal with the NFL next season. This change took place only two months after Papa John’s founder and CEO, John Schnatter, criticized the players for protesting and stepped down from his position.

Pizza Hut's deal will exceed Papa John's original contract and will not end until 2021, reported Bloomberg.

  • Although the Papa John's CEO claimed the protests were bad for business, Pizza Hut's parent company stock, Yum!, grew by 8% during the same time

  • Many players in the league tweeted their support for Pizza Hut

  • In general, the announcement was mainly celebrated by those deeply rooted in the world of professional football
