Tyrone Davis, Former Packers, Jets Player Dies At 50

He helped Green Bay reach the Super Bowl in 1998.

Tyrone Davis, a former NFL tight end, reportedly passed away on October 2 at the age of 50.

According to Sports Illustrated, the Virginia native and UVA alum’s cause of death is currently unknown.

Davis was a fourth-round pick by the New York Jets in 1995, and entered the draft as a wide receiver prior to switching his position to tight end in his second NFL season. He played two seasons for the Jets.

Davis was traded to the Packers ahead of the 1997 season and played in Green Bay through the 2002 season, starting in 27 of 69 game appearances and helping the team reach Super Bowl XXXII in his first season.

He finished with 73 career receptions for 795 yards and 13 touchdowns.

Davis was inducted into the Halifax County-South Boston Sports Hall of Fame in his hometown in 2012.
