GloRilla Speaks Out After Home Invasion And Subsequent Arrest
Grammy-nominated rapper GloRilla is speaking out for the first time since her arrest following a violent home invasion at her Forsyth County Ga., residence. The Memphis native, born Gloria Woods, was in Indianapolis performing during WNBA All-Star Weekend when 3 armed men broke into her home in the middle of the night. A family member fired shots at the intruders, who fled before police arrived.
“Long story short my house gets home invaded and I'm the only one that gets arrested…instead of focusing on finding the suspects, they focus on some cannabis.” GloRilla shared the news on social media.
“I feel like me, and my brother and sister, we were victims in this situation,” GloRilla told WSBTV. “But somehow, they’re trying to paint us out to be suspects, and I just feel like it’s all the way wrong.”
“Over $700,000 of items were stolen from her home, and so her brother and sister naturally called the police when this was all going on,” her attorney Drew Findling explained.
Investigators later found marijuana in the home and charged the rapper with felony possession. During that time, the Forsyth County Sheriff’s office released a statement that “based on information obtained during the initial investigation, Task Force agents secured a search warrant for the home. A significant amount of marijuana was discovered in plain view.”
GloRilla voluntarily surrendered and was released on bond. “The most egregious part is that there seems to be no movement whatsoever in this home invasion, but rather, within 24 hours, there were warrants for her arrest for a marijuana possession case. That’s unconscionable,” Findling said.
Earlier this summer, the sheriff’s office publicly acknowledged that Woods and her family were the victims of a serious crime and promised justice. GloRilla and her legal team are now considering their own investigation after what they call a “misguided investigation.”
