Chicago Sky To Retire Candace Parker’s Jersey

During her two seasons with the team, Parker led the Sky to their only championship.

Candace Parker’s jersey will be hung in the rafters at the Wintrust Arena this summer.

The Chicago Sky announced that the future Hall of Famer's No. 3 jersey will officially be retired on Aug. 25 before a game against the Las Vegas Aces, Yahoo Sports reports.

Parker, a native of Naperville in the Chicago suburbs, will hold the distinction of being the first Sky player to have her jersey retired.

Adam Fox, CEO of the SKy, lauded Parker for her accomplishments for the franchise.

“Candace has left an indelible mark on women’s basketball at every level and has inspired countless players and fans through her outstanding leadership and basketball talent on and off the court," Sky CEO Adam Fox said in a team statement. "We are honored to retire her jersey and celebrate her incredible legacy as a Chicago Sky player.”

Coming to the Sky in 2021, Parker led the franchise to its only championship. In her two seasons in Chicago, Parker averaged 13.2 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 4.3 assists per game. She also shot 45.8% from the field and 31.7% from 3-point distance.

Before coming to the Sky, Parker played 13 seasons with the Los Angeles Sparks, solidifying her status as one of the greatest players in WNBA history. She won league MVP and Rookie of the Year in her first season with the team. Parker went on to win two MVPs, five All-Star appearances, a Defensive Player of the Year award, and a Finals MVP trophy after leading the Sparks to the 2016 championship.

The Sparks will retire Parker's jersey on June 29.
