Victoria Monét Jokes She's Ready to Date—Even If It Means Going to Space
Victoria Monét says she’s ready to date again after her breakup with John Gaines, but finding love might take more than Earth has to offer.
The Grammy-winning singer and mom recently opened up about life post-breakup from producer John Gaines, the father of her daughter Hazel, during a candid conversation with BET for their latest digital cover, which quickly shifted from dating dilemmas to intergalactic romance.
“Yes, I am dating,” Monét initially confirmed, before clarifying with a laugh, “Well, I’m not dating anyone, but I would like to date. I’m open!”
The “On My Mama” singer admitted that figuring out where to meet potential partners has been a challenge. “Where do we go? I don’t know… I don’t think it’s Orlando,” she joked, suggesting with a smile that maybe it’s time to look beyond the U.S.—or even Earth. “Should we go to Africa? Yes. Or maybe… space?”
Monét also joked about the idea of extraterrestrial romance. “Maybe that’s where our boyfriends are… our girlfriends. We might be tainted here,” she said. “Take me on a date to your planet!”
While Monét kept things lighthearted, her openness marked a significant step forward following the quiet end of her long-term relationship.
The former couple welcomed their daughter in 2021 but split sometime in 2023, with Monét choosing to focus on motherhood and music in the months since.
”We both just have some fundamental growing to do that would be best done apart so we can remain the best versions of ourselves for our daughter," they shared in a joint statement last September.
Despite the split, the pair remains committed to co-parenting Hazel, ensuring her well-being stays front and center. Now, it seems Monét is ready to welcome something new into her orbit—even if it comes from another galaxy.
