Offset's Mom Calls Her Son a 'Miracle Walking' After He Takes the Stage Less Than a Week After Being Shot
Latabia Woodward doesn't usually post about her son on social media. She made an exception on Sunday.
In an Instagram Story that quickly circulated online, Woodward addressed the April 6 shooting of her son Offset for the first time publicly. According to Complex, she opened by acknowledging her usual silence. "I don't typically address things about my son on social media," she wrote. "I learned a long time ago that facts rarely survive the internet, and I refuse to feed that machine."
What she said next, she clearly wanted people to hear. "Six days ago, my son was shot. Four days later, he was released from the hospital. Last night, he was on a stage doing what he loves to do," Woodward wrote. "He is a miracle walking. That is God's grace, that is God's mercy."
From the Hospital to the Stage
Offset was shot in the valet area outside the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida, on April 6, after a fight allegedly involving associates of rapper Lil Tjay broke out. He was hospitalized at Memorial Regional Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. On April 10, his spokesperson confirmed he had been discharged and was "up and walking."
Offset addressed his recovery directly on Instagram that same day. "Thank you to everyone who's checked in on me and showed me love! I'm good... but I'm planning to be better!" he wrote, per NBC News. "I'm focused on my family, my recovery, and getting back to the music... realizing that life is made up of quiet wins and loud losses... Life's a gamble and I'm still playing to win."
He performed live on Saturday, April 11, less than a week after being shot. His mother's post confirmed what many had seen circulating on social media.
The Legal Case Continues
Lil Tjay, born Tione Jayden Merritt, was arrested on a misdemeanor disorderly conduct charge and a traffic violation in connection with the incident. No one has been charged in connection with the shooting itself. The investigation remains ongoing. Tjay has denied shooting Offset and pleaded not guilty to the disorderly conduct charge.
