Freddie Gray's death hit the nation hard, but nobody was affected more than his mother, Gloria Darden. Sadly, Baltimore's WJZ reports that the grieving mother attempted suicide on Wednesday evening. 
Darden was taken to a nearby hospital and was undergoing psychiatric evaluation Thursday evening, according to multiple sources. Though she had several wounds, the self-inflicted damage was superficial and no stitches were required.
Gray, 25, suffered injuries while in police custody following an April 12 arrest and died in a hospital a week later. The incident prompted widespread protests in Baltimore and in other cities. In September, Baltimore agreed to pay Gray's family $6.4 million to settle civil litigation, though the pain of their loss could not so easily be resolved.
